Chora Sfakion is a small port under the Lefka Ori on Crete's south-west coast, and its importance is structural rather than scenic: it is where the road system meets a stretch of coastline that has no road at all. Walkers who finish the Samaria Gorge at Agia Roumeli, and travellers heading to Loutro, come back to the network here. KTEL Chania–Rethymno lists Chora Sfakion among its published destinations, which makes it the pivot of most south-west day plans.

The gorge-exit connection

Agia Roumeli, where the Samaria walk ends, has no road. Reaching Chora Sfakion from there involves a boat leg run by an operator outside this guide's source ledger — check the sailing arrangements locally and treat them as their own plan.
