Worth your time

What Kissamos does best

Kissamos, which the bus timetables call Kasteli, is a coastal town in western Crete. The Region of Crete describes it as built over ancient Kissamos, and its archaeological museum as presenting research on the earthquake of the year 365 that struck Crete and destroyed the ancient town. KTEL Chania–Rethymno's edition valid from 26 September 2026 publishes Chania–Kasteli (Kissamos) every day in both directions, and prints Kissamos Port as a separate destination.

  1. Built over ancient Kissamos

The Region of Crete describes the coastal town as built over ancient Kissamos, with an archaeological museum in the town.

  2. The earthquake of 365

According to the Region of Crete, the museum presents research on the earthquake of the year 365, which struck Crete and destroyed ancient Kissamos.

  3. Town and port

The bus edition prints the town (Kasteli) and Kissamos Port as different destinations, each with rows of its own.

Good to know

  • Read the row's destination: Kasteli (Kissamos) and Kissamos Port are printed separately.
  • For Falassarna, the edition prints a change of bus at Kasteli on every journey from Chania.
  • Museum opening arrangements are not a bus fact; check them with the museum.
