Getting to Paleochora

Scheduled service

KTEL Chania–Rethymno's Chania edition prints Chania–Paleochora and the return, each with a Monday-to-Saturday and a Sunday group, plus local rows from Paleochora to Grammeno, Krios and Kountoura.

  • Read the Sunday group separately: the edition prints fewer Sunday departures in both directions.
  • The local Paleochora–Kountoura rows run from Monday to Friday, with a single departure each way at weekends.
  • Boats along the south coast are a separate operator's plan; this page does not print them.

What Paleochora does best

Paleochora is a town on Crete's south-west coast. The Region of Crete places the beaches of Gialiskari 4 km east of the town and publishes a walking route along the coast from Paleochora to the small harbour of Sougia. KTEL Chania–Rethymno's edition valid from 26 September 2026 publishes Chania–Paleochora in both directions, with a Monday-to-Saturday group and a smaller Sunday group.

  1. Gialiskari

The Region of Crete places Gialiskari 4 km east of Paleochora and describes it as a cluster of three adjacent beaches.

  2. The coastal path to Sougia

The Region of Crete's walking route starts on the road parallel to the beach east of Paleochora and ends at the small harbour of Sougia.

  3. Local buses along the coast

The bus edition prints local rows from Paleochora to Grammeno, Krios and Kountoura, and one Saturday departure to Xyloskalo.

Good to know

  • Read the Sunday group separately: the edition prints fewer Sunday departures in both directions.
  • A coastal walk to Sougia ends in a different village: plan the bus back from there, not from Paleochora.
  • Plan the return to Chania before the day starts.
